The sad thing about the healthcare bill is that is isn't really socialized. We will be forced to pay money to a corporation for insurance. It is more like state sponsored capitalism. Oh well, step in the right direction I guess?

5:58 pm - Writer's Block: Ten for the Tenth
Some people spend their whole lives preparing the answer to this question: What albums are on your personal all-time Top 10 list?

Not in order:

Swans "Filth"
Beat Happening "Jamboree"
Christian Death "Only Theatre of Pain"
Daniel Johnston and Jad Fair "It's Spooky"
My Bloody Valentine "Isn't Anything"
Shellac "The Futurist"
The Fall "Perverted by Language"
The Cure "Seventeen Seconds"
The Smiths "Meat is Murder"

If I thought about this for a while I'm sure the list would be different.

A paper I wrote on Plato's Parmenides was selected for my school's in-house philosophy conference. I had to present the paper two weeks ago in front of students and faculty. I was really nervous at first but once I started reading my paper I was fine. I believe I handled the question and answer part better than the other two students whose papers were selected.

I began with this joke, "I want to start out by saying I really love this dialogue, Platonically speaking."

Last week was my Spring break and it consisted mostly of writing papers, although I did start teaching myself ancient Greek through a few books I picked up from the library. The only parts I covered during the week were the alphabet, pronunciations, and the accent marks, no syntax or vocab. I feel that if this is all I teach myself before my course in ancient Greek this coming Spring I will at least have the very basics down at first.

Sometimes I'm tempted to just take all the money I will be spending on school and spend it on books and a place to stay for a few years. I would read on my own and probably get more out of it than I would college.

Has anyone else ever thought of this?

It's too bad I don't believe in an afterlife, because this is what heaven would sound like.

I did not get accepted to the school I applied to for the fall semester. Although I knew I probably didn't have a good chance it still makes me very sad.

In five hours I have a twenty hour bus ride ahead of me. I fucking hate buses.

I need a hug.

11:37 am - I just found an article online that made me sick to my stomach

Here's a quote:
"Those boycotting, illegal aliens and those who support their cause are targeting my country and government. They are attempting to inflect harm on my community and country through financial disruption. They may call it something else, but the intent is the same, coercion.

They, those who support and participate in the boycott are allowing their cause to be used and propagandized by the socialist and communists groups who celebrate May 1st"

Attempting to inflect harm on your community by peaceful nonviolent protests that are guaranteed to us by the US constitution. This kind of dumbass is the epitome of a stupid American that fears the "evils" of socialism and communism, though they may not even be able to give you a definition of either.

You know what? Fuck America. Fuck democracy. Fuck capitalism. Most of all though, fuck people who are anti-immigration.

I saw the Violent Femmes for free tonight. It was a really great show. I knew someone who works at a radio station that got me in for free.

For their encore they played "Kiss Off", which is my favourite Femmes tune.

I wanna start going to more shows.

I'm going vegetarian for a week. It's something I've always wanted to do, but it's also something I've never had the willpower for.

If I make it a week I plan on going vegetarian for good.

Oh, if you were wondering, I'm not eating eggs or dairy either.

Hello again my friends.

I'd like some recommendations for some books to enlighten myself to the world of politics. Please no links to sites on the internet, I want to actually have paper in front of my face when I read something (longer than a blog post)

I especially expect some good recommendations from you, Mojo.
